It is time to go back to a simpler diet, ditching the refined, industrial food that is now invading every household. It is time to ditch the sugary drinks and all those products with added sugar, stepping away from the "snacking" culture.
A good starting point is to be more mindful when buying things in the supermarket and always pay attention to the ingredients list: they are written in decreasing order, i.e. the first ingredient is the main one.
Unfortunately we live in a world where food marketing is very clever and wild, and sometimes we are wrongly lead to believe that a product is healthy because it says so on the package. Think of Heinz Baked Beans, for example, where the tin claims that it is 1 of your 5 a day, which is very misleading as beans are a pulse and not 1 of the daily recommended doses of fruit and vegetables; moreover there is a great amount of sugar in it.
So it is very important to check the ingredients lists of supermarket products and even more important to try and buy ingredients as opposed to ready made, industrial food.
